26012012.

We have received various reports regarding door-to-door callers asking for email addresses and bank details in order to set up direct debit payments for various charities. While some of these may be legitimate, there have been complaints that heavy handed and aggressive techniques have been used. On one occasion an attempt was made to gain entry under the excuse of needing something to rest on whilst taking details. Most legitimate callers will have their own equipment and identification, however please remember not to divulge any personal details to strangers, however convincing they may be.Please pass this information onto friends and neighbours.

Please be aware of an ongoing scam, where you may receive a call from people claiming to be from MICROSOFT telling you that you have a virus on your computer.

They may ask you to turn your computer on and go to a specific website where it will show you an error log. They may attempt to get remote access to your computer and they will ask you to pay some money to fix or protect the system. ***THIS IS A SCAM***.

Fraudsters make these phone calls to try to steal from your bank account and damage your computer by removing software. Any legitimate company such a Microsoft or Norton will not contact you or ask for payment.

·Please treat all unsolicited phone calls with scepticism
·Consider saying that you already have antivirus software installed and hang up.
·Do not allow the caller remote access to your computer
·Do not pass any bank details to the caller.
·If your comput er actually isn't working, go to someone you trust, for example a computer shop.

Anyone who has been defrauded by this scam or another scam should call 0300 123 2040 or report it online at actionfraud.org.uk
